Department: Leadership Learning and Accountability
Job Title: Part-Time School Improvement & Texas Strategic Leadership Specialist
Position Type: Part-time
Job Goal:
Provide training, coaching, technical assistance, and consultative support to school districts and campuses in the areas of school improvement and Texas Strategic Leadership (TSL). Support district and campus leaders in identifying high-leverage improvement priorities, developing and implementing effective improvement plans, monitoring progress, and building sustainable systems that lead to improved student outcomes.
The specialist will work collaboratively with Region 6 ESC staff, district and campus leadership teams, and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to support continuous improvement efforts aligned with state requirements, research-based practices, and identified district and campus needs.
Qualifications: Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required
Master’s degree in education, educational leadership, or related field required
Valid Texas educator certification required
Texas principal or administrator certification required
Experience
Minimum of five years of successful experience in public education
Successful campus and/or district leadership experience required
Experience supporting school improvement, strategic planning, instructional leadership, or continuous improvement initiatives preferred
Experience working with campuses identified for school improvement or state/federal accountability interventions preferred
Experience with Texas Strategic Leadership (TSL), Effective Schools Framework (ESF), or related TEA initiatives preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of Texas accountability and school improvement systems
Knowledge of the Effective Schools Framework and continuous improvement processes
Understanding of strategic planning, implementation, progress monitoring, and performance management
Ability to analyze multiple sources of quantitative and qualitative data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement priorities
Ability to coach and support district and campus leaders through complex improvement efforts
Strong facilitation, presentation, and professional learning skills
Strong interpersonal, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Ability to establish effective working relationships with district and campus leaders, ESC staff, TEA personnel, and other partners
Ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and required documentation
Proficiency with technology and digital tools used for communication, collaboration, data analysis, and reporting
Major Responsibilities and Duties
School Improvement
Provide technical assistance, coaching, and support to districts and campuses engaged in school improvement and continuous improvement efforts.
Support district and campus leaders in analyzing accountability, student achievement, implementation, and other relevant data to identify prioritized needs and root causes.
Assist campuses and districts with the development, implementation, monitoring, and refinement of improvement plans, including required Targeted Improvement Plans (TIPs), Targeted Action Plans (TAPs), and other state-required improvement processes.
Support implementation of the Effective Schools Framework and alignment of improvement strategies to identify ESF levers and essential actions.
Facilitate strategic conversations with district and campus leadership teams focused on measurable outcomes, implementation milestones, evidence of progress, and adjustments to practice.
Assist Region 6 ESC school improvement staff with required TEA processes, progress monitoring activities, documentation, and deliverables.
Participate in campus visits, leadership meetings, diagnostic activities, learning walks, and other school improvement support activities as assigned. Texas Strategic Leadership
Texas Strategic Leadership
Provide coaching, facilitation, and technical assistance to districts participating in Texas Strategic Leadership and related strategic planning initiatives.
Support district leadership teams in developing and implementing coherent strategic plans aligned to student outcomes and identifying district priorities.
Facilitate processes that help district leaders establish clear priorities, measurable goals, implementation strategies, progress measures, and systems for monitoring execution.
Assist districts in connecting strategic planning efforts to instructional priorities, resource allocation, organizational systems, and continuous improvement.
Support district leadership teams using data and evidence to evaluate implementation, identify barriers, and make strategic adjustments.
Participate in required TSL training, calibration, collaboration, and implementation activities established by TEA and Region 6 ESC.
Training, Collaboration, and Regional Support
Develop and facilitate high-quality professional learning for district and campus leaders related to school improvement, strategic leadership, continuous improvement, and aligned initiatives.
Collaborate with other Region 6 ESC departments and specialists to provide coordinated, comprehensive support based on district and campus needs.
Participate as appropriate in Region 6 district support structures, including cross-functional teams designed to coordinate services and continuous improvement efforts.
Maintain current knowledge of TEA guidance, accountability requirements, school improvement requirements, TSL expectations, and related state initiatives.
Maintain accurate documentation of district and campus support, coaching activities, deliverables, and program requirements.
Communicate regularly with assigned Region 6 ESC leadership regarding district needs, implementation progress, emerging concerns, and opportunities for additional support.
Represent Region 6 ESC professionally in interactions with districts, campuses, TEA, and other partners.
Perform other duties assigned to support the mission and goals of Region 6 Education Service Center.

Ability to communicate effectively; maintain emotional control under stress; manage multiple priorities and deadlines; interpret complex data and guidance; facilitate difficult or sensitive conversations; exercise sound judgment and discretion; and adapt to changing program and district needs.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
Frequent travel to districts and campuses throughout the Region 6 service area and occasional travel outside the region. Frequent use of computers and other technologies. Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, presenting, and working in school and office environments. Occasional evening, extended hours, or overnight work may be required to meet program needs.
Terms of Employment
Part-time position. Work schedules and number of days will be established annually based on program needs, funding availability, and Region 6 ESC requirements.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Region 6 Education Service Center policies and procedures.
