Aligned Schools is a live online micro-school serving students in small, supportive classes with a strong focus on individualized learning, meaningful relationships, and teacher-created curriculum. We are looking for a warm, knowledgeable, and flexible STEM Lead Teacher to teach and support our middle and high school Math and Science program. This is a hands-on teaching position for someone who is comfortable working across multiple grade levels and subject areas, including advanced high school coursework. About Aligned Schools Our students attend small, live online classes rather than spending the school day completing independent computer-based coursework. Our curriculum is: Standards-aligned Teacher-created and teacher-led Mastery-based Built around discussion, problem solving, projects, and meaningful application Flexible enough to support remediation, grade-level learning, and advanced students We serve many neurodiverse learners, including students with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, anxiety, executive-function challenges, giftedness, and twice-exceptional profiles. We are looking for someone who combines strong STEM content knowledge with a patient, encouraging, and relationship-centered teaching style.
Responsibilities: The STEM Lead Teacher will: Teach live online middle and high school Math and Science classes Teach students across a range of ability levels Provide instruction in courses that may include Middle School Math, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Middle School Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics Create and adapt engaging, standards-aligned lessons Differentiate instruction for individual student needs Support students who need remediation, additional scaffolding, or enrichment Use projects, discussion, problem solving, and real-world application as part of instruction Monitor student progress and communicate with families and staff Collaborate with the teaching team on curriculum, pacing, and student support Maintain a warm, welcoming classroom where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes
Required Qualifications: Applicants should have: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Math Education, STEM Education, or a closely related field At least 2 years of teaching experience At least 1 year of online teaching experience Strong knowledge of secondary Math and Science Confidence teaching advanced high school mathematics, including Pre-Calculus and Calculus Confidence teaching high school sciences, including Chemistry and Physics Experience supporting neurodiverse learners Strong relationship-building and classroom management skills Excellent communication and organization Strong proficiency with Zoom Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Math Education, STEM Education, or a related field Experience teaching both middle and high school students Experience using Toddle Experience developing curriculum Experience with differentiated instruction, UDL, intervention, or individualized learning plans Experience in a microschool, private school, homeschool, or alternative education environment Schedule & Compensation Approximately 30 hours per week Fully remote — work from anywhere 1099 independent contractor position$28–$32 per hour, depending on experience Paid school holidays Regular weekday availability required Who We’re Looking For The right person is someone who can teach Calculus one hour and then turn around and make middle school science approachable and fun the next. We want someone who is academically strong, flexible, dependable, and genuinely enjoys working with students. They should be able to explain difficult concepts clearly while creating a classroom environment that feels encouraging, supportive, and welcoming.
