Role Description:
The Payroll Clerk is a full-time, on-site role based in Jackson, MI, responsible for supporting accurate and timely payroll processing for the organization’s employees. This role includes preparing and entering payroll data, verifying timesheets, processing new hires, terminations, and changes, and assisting with payroll-related inquiries. The Payroll Clerk will calculate wages, overtime, deductions, and benefits, ensure compliance with applicable payroll tax regulations, and coordinate with accounting staff to reconcile payroll records. Day-to-day tasks also involve maintaining organized employee payroll files, generating payroll reports, and supporting audits or reviews as needed. The role requires strong attention to detail, dependable follow-through, and confidential handling of sensitive employee information.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in payroll services and payroll administration, with the ability to process regular payroll cycles accurately. Knowledge of payroll management practices, including handling employee changes, benefits deductions, and wage calculations. Understanding of payroll taxes and compliance requirements at federal, state, and local levels. Basic to intermediate accounting skills to reconcile payroll data with general ledger and financial records. Proficiency with payroll software and MS Office tools (especially Excel), and strong data entry accuracy. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with sensitive information. Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members and management. High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in payroll or accounting is preferred.
