Duties:
Teach undergraduate courses in P-5 general music methods and graduate courses in areas ofexpertise. Supervise student teaching and fieldwork experiences in local schools. Advise graduateresearch projects. The faculty member will be expected to (a) demonstrate a strong commitment toteaching excellence for a broad range of students of varied identities and backgrounds, (b) recruit andretain students of exceptional promise, and (c) develop and maintain a visible national and internationalprofile as a scholar and pedagogue. The faculty member will also be expected to participate in facultygovernance, attend faculty meetings, and serve on faculty and university committees as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required:
Candidates must hold an earned doctorate in music education and have at least four years offull-time P–12 school music teaching experience. They must have professional preparation in one ormore general music pedagogies, such as Kodály, Orff-Schulwerk, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Music Learning Theory, popular music pedagogies, world music pedagogies, or creative music making. Candidates mustalso have university-level experience teaching undergraduate music education courses and evidence ofeffective teaching, including strong course design, pedagogical innovation, mentoring, assessmentpractices, or demonstrated impact on student learning. Candidates must have demonstrated ability toempower, advocate for, and value a broad range of students of varied identities and experiences, asshown through pedagogy, mentoring, and related activities. Candidates will have a demonstrated abilityto teach graduate music education courses, guide graduate student research using multiplemethodological approaches, and pursue a compelling scholarly trajectory characterized by significantquality, coherence, originality, and potential for a sustained contribution to music education scholarship.
Preferred:
Preferred candidates will have experience working in early childhood settings and with earlychildhood educators, as well as evidence of effective teaching in graduate music education courses andsuccessfully guiding graduate student research. Additional preferred qualifications include a record ofpublications and presentations in music education venues; evidence of impactful communityengagement in music education through partnerships, outreach, or collaborative initiatives; andexperience teaching in an additional area of P–12 music education, such as band, strings, choir, orsecondary general music.
