Job Description Job Description JOB SUMMARY:The Director of Safety and Environmental Programs is in charge of the Company's Safety and Environmental Programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversee the completion of Job Safety & Hazard Analyses.
  • Review the results of the Job Safety Observation Program.
  • Reduce Worker's Compensation claim costs.
  • Review and improve the existing OSHA/EPA compliance management systems at the Plants.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing:o Monthly wastewater discharge reportso Annual toxic release inventory reportso Annual air emission reportso Spill Prevention Plans
  • Work closely with the Materials Research Laboratory to identify and reduce or eliminate the use of hazardous raw materials.
  • Work closely with the Sales Division to respond to customer queries regarding safety and environmental issues.
  • Participate in and contribute to corporate Quality Assurance programs.
  • Direct corporate environmental compliance and stewardship programs to mitigate risk, improve operational efficiency, and optimize costs.
  • Assist the Plants in minimizing waste generated and reducing waste disposal costs.
  • Provide Safety/Environmental training to the Plants and Service Centers.
  • Track energy and water usage at all Plants.
  • Manage electricity and natural gas contracts with consultants and 3rd party vendors.
  • Prepare an annual energy and water budget for the Plants.
  • Communicate complex regulatory issues affecting the Company's operations to executives, Plant staff, legal counsel, regulatory agencies, consultants and others as required.
  • Understand how statutes, regulations and policies are proposed, promulgated, implemented and enforced on the Federal, State and local levels.
  • Research new regulations or existing regulations applicable to new operations and new compliance strategies.
  • Understand financial accounting methods to provide accurate compliance cost estimates and track Plant performance.
  • Understand audit principles to review and improve Plant performance.
  • Work effectively with executives, Plant staff, legal counsel, insurance companies, regulatory inspectors and consultants.
  • Challenge all regulatory requirements and consultant/contractor recommendations to minimize costs.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • EPA and OSHA regulations
  • Site remediation principles and techniques
  • Comfortable making presentations to large groups
  • Excel, Word, PowerPointEDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • B.S. degree in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry or Engineering.
