Requirements:
  • Participate in Management Team responsibilities as designated, such as policy development
  • Participate in Person in Charge shifts as assigned depending on the store's needs
  • Plan attractive displays with uniform signage; ensure displays are fully stocked, rotated, and fronted to ensure freshness and abundance
  • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price, ingredient, and date labeling of items
  • Assist in planning and implementing seasonal programs
  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery
  • Ensure accurate coding and up to date shelf tags and/or signage
  • Consult with manager on updating UPCs, PLUs and pricing information in the POS register system
  • Maintain level of high quality products; maintain a sufficient amount of inventory, with limited out of stock items to maximize sales and turnover
  • Receive orders, or ensure proper receiving by department staff, in accordance with established procedures
  • Review invoices for accuracy, break into inventory categories and pass to Bookkeeping for payment
  • Get credit from suppliers where applicable for returned or low-quality product. Ensure department waste items are disposed of properly
  • Meat Cutting
  • Maintain standards for meat cutting to meet quality, pricing, margin control, and customer service goals
  • Cut meat and oversee meat cutting for department
  • Adhere to health and safety standards and practices for department meat cutting and handling
  • Department Operations
  • Help plan attractive meat and seafood displays, using color and texture to enhance
  • See that displays are replenished, rotated, checked for quality
  • Assist in setting prices to achieve margin goals
  • Conduct periodic price surveys of identified competitors
  • Assist in ensuring POS system and scales are accurate and costs and pricing are current
  • Maintain waste logs and know percentage of waste each week
  • Personnel Management—for department staff:
  • Ensure on-the-job training
  • Take disciplinary action as needed following established policies
  • Assist in scheduling hours for department staff within budget, and review time cards
  • Organize meetings of meat and seafood department staff as needed
  • Department Maintenance
  • Ensure food prep, work area, utensils, equipment and display areas are maintained in sanitary, orderly condition meeting or exceeding health department standards
  • Follow standard Sanitation Operating Procedures schedule including: deep cleaning schedules, good health department scores, pest awareness and control, equipment maintenance and cleanings
  • Follow USDA and NH State Law regarding the use, labeling, and handling of allergens

  • Ensure proper storage and labeling procedures as per health department and organic standards
  • Participate in all monthly, quarterly and annual inventory counts
Maintain department equipment in working order. Notify management of equipment problems or requirements. Research and recommend major equipment repair, replacement, or acquisitions. Follow and update opening and closing checklists Monitor temperatures in cooler and cases
Qualifications:
  • Regularly lift 60lbs safely
  • Ability to be mobile throughout entire shifts
  • Bend, squat, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Ability to communicate with customers and coworkers
  • Sufficient vision to perform your job safely and accurately
  • Effective communication skills to listen and to give clear directions in English
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one or small group situations to customers and employees
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Excel software
  • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment such as meat saw, grinder, knives and sealing equipment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience serving the public
  • At least 3 years' experience in meat-cutting for retail sales
  • Experience managing fresh meat department purchasing, merchandising, and pricing to meet goals for sales, margin, customer service, and department expenses
  • Supervisory experience – hiring, training, evaluating, directing
  • Ability to read and interpret financial statements, or at least a basic understanding
  • Customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Department of Agriculture sanitation regulationsKnowledge of organic and commercial growing practices, and organic certification regulationsKnowledge of handling procedures for organic product
  • Environment includes frequently working in a walk-in cooler and freezer
