Research Fellow Children's Hospital Los Angeles Abdominal Organ Transplant 1 year position for a research fellow at Children's Hospital Los Angeles with the division of abdominal transplant. The research will be focused on pediatric abdominal transplantation and includes research in biliary atresia, organ allocation in pediatric liver transplantation, split liver transplantation, obesity in the donor pool, use of bridge to life organ perfusion in pediatric liver transplantation among a variety of other topics. The experience will also allow you to keep up and improve upon your operative and clinical skills. Part of the requirements for the year are 5, 12-hour call shifts at CHLA with the pediatric surgery service. In addition, you would be expected to be involved in pediatric transplantations as they arise at CHLA.Required activities: Attend CHLA Liver Multidisciplinary Conference weekly. Attend CHLA Abdominal Transplant Morbidity and Mortality Conference monthly. Participate in multidisciplinary transplant journal club. Assist with care of abdominal transplant patients as appropriate. Attend abdominal transplant operative cases when available, including: Liver transplantation Kidney transplantation Donor procurements Hepatobiliary procedures Other relevant abdominal transplant or complex HPB cases Cover 5 pediatric surgery calls monthly. Expectations: Maintain at least 3 active clinical research projects during the academic year. Submit a minimum of:3 abstracts3 manuscripts Assist with maintenance, quality control, and expansion of the CHLA abdominal transplant clinical databank. Participate in regular research meetings with faculty mentor(s) to review: Project progress Data collection Statistical analysis Abstract deadlines Manuscript preparation The salary will be equivalent to a PGY3 salary ~$78,000. Applicants must have a California medical license or the ability to get a California medical license.
