Apply for this role →Laboratory Processing Assistant II - AHDC Receiving The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Laboratory Processing Assistant to join the Receiving team at the Animal Health Diagnostic Center. In this position, you will adhere to a rotational work schedule that is primarily in Receiving. You will be under the general supervision of the laboratory supervisors to support the AHDC operations by performing routine and detailed submission handling duties to prepare cases for testing. The successful candidate is highly collaborative and enjoys completing tasks while using standard operating procedures (SOPs). They are also extremely reliable, flexible in dealing with unpredictable workloads, and work well under pressure in a team-based environment.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Receive and open packages, confirm completeness and accuracy of all incoming samples and submission forms
Enter submission information into Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and perform any additional paperwork related to the case.
Participate in a rotational bench schedule within the Receiving unit.
Contact clients concerning any problems and/or discrepancies related to submissions.
Work with unit leadership, Veterinary Support Service staff and other subject matter experts to resolve client questions.
Receive and process routine submissions delivered overnight, at the Receiving window.
Assist laboratory units with sample related issues.
Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma and up to one year of relevant work experience or equivalent combination of experience
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; ability to clearly communicate across levels
Works well both independently and within a team environment
Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information with tact and discretion
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at computer stations or benches
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a veterinary or human diagnostic laboratory, medical practice, or health facility
Licensed animal health technician
Experience working within an organization with an established Quality Assurance System
Demonstrates initiative for self‑professional development and seeks growth opportunities
Works well both, individually and in a team environment
Important Details about the Position This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
This is a full‑time three‑year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
This position is 39 hours per week, Monday through Friday. While normal business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, specific schedules may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, University holidays and scheduled breaks.

About the Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) The Animal Health Diagnostic Center (AHDC) is a high visibility and high‑volume veterinary diagnostic laboratory that promotes the health, productivity, and welfare of food‑and‑fiber‑producing animals, companion animals, and zoo and wildlife populations. Through its comprehensive veterinary diagnostic services, the AHDC detects animal diseases and supports animal and public health, promotes environmental stewardship, and fosters economic growth.
The Receiving unit of the AHDC is a team‑based environment, which receives and processes more than 500,000 samples annually and is an integral part of the organization.
