Director, Power Generation - Origination | Thermal Power Generation Platform | Denver, COWe're retained by a leading megafund-backed power & energy infrastructure platform to hire a Director, Power Generation - Origination within its Commercial group. About the Platform The platform is a private equity-backed power & energy infrastructure business, held within one of the world's largest alternative asset managers' infrastructure funds, building large-scale power generation and infrastructure solutions for hyperscale data centers and other large-load, energy-intensive customers alongside a long standing midstream portfolio. The active pipeline exceeds $20B, including a 1.8GW gas-to-power initiative with a major hyperscale infrastructure partner, as the platform scales dedicated power solutions to meet accelerating AI-driven demand.
The Team: The role sits within the company's broader commercial group and reports to a VP of Executive Operations. It leads the team covering the thermal power generation pipeline.
The Role: The senior leader for the thermal power generation business, sitting within the Commercial group. Owns the commercial view of gas-fired generation projects in development — competitive position, pipeline status, and the recommendation on whether each project should advance — and is accountable for the quality, pace, and conclusions of the analysis that reaches executive leadership.
Key responsibilities include: Owning competitive analysis, pitch materials, pipeline tracking, and routine commercial updates for thermal power generation projects in development - primarily large-scale gas-fired assets - and recommending where each stands and whether it should advance Leading and managing the analyst team covering the thermal generation pipeline - setting priorities, holding the team to a decision-ready standard, and developing the bench Serving as lead analytical advisor to thermal power generation leadership from development through financing, execution, and operations Owning the strategic analyses, business cases, and decision-support materials used by executives on gas-fired generation investments, translating complex technical, operational, and financial detail into concise recommendations Owning development of materials for customers, investors, lenders, executive leadership, and the Board on thermal generation projects Supporting economic evaluation and underwriting of gas-fired generation projects, and overseeing project finance, valuation, and scenario models alongside Strategic Finance and Corporate Development Assessing project risks, returns, capital requirements, financing structures, and commercial agreements for thermal generation assets, with additional exposure to M&A, JVs, and strategic partnerships across the broader infrastructure platform Candidate Profile 8–12+ years in thermal power generation, energy infrastructure, project finance, investment banking, infrastructure investing, private equity, or corporate development Demonstrated experience evaluating complex energy or infrastructure investments and owning project economics Experience leading analysts and analytical workstreams Advanced financial modeling, valuation, and scenario analysis capabilities, with strong command of thermal power generation technologies, energy markets, and financing structures Exceptional communicator able to influence senior leadership Power and utilities IB, infrastructure or energy transition investing, M&A and financing exposure, or an MBA/CFA preferred
