POSITION PURPOSE:
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the daily operations of the Bakery Department, helping ensure high-quality products, exceptional customer service, proper merchandising, food safety, sanitation, inventory control, and overall department readiness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESCustomer Service & Sales:
Provide fast, friendly, and professional customer service.
Assist customers with product selections, special orders, and bakery-related questions.
Resolve customer concerns appropriately and escalate issues to store leadership when necessary.
Utilize suggestive selling techniques and identify opportunities to increase department sales.
Bakery Operations & Production:
Assist with daily bakery production, preparation, packaging, displaying, and merchandising.
Maintain fresh, full, and visually appealing bakery displays.
Follow established product preparation, packaging, portion, and quality standards.
Support production planning based on sales, promotions, seasonal demand, and special orders.
Maintain proper product rotation and remove outdated or spoiled products.
Food Safety, Sanitation & Compliance:
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation throughout bakery work, preparation, display, cooler, freezer, and equipment areas.
Monitor appropriate temperatures during product preparation, storage, and display.
Follow company food safety, labeling, code-dating, workplace safety, and regulatory requirements.
Help ensure bakery equipment and work areas are maintained in safe operating condition.
Inventory & Shrink Control:
Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating bakery products and supplies.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels while supporting freshness and shrink-control goals.
Verify deliveries and report shortages or product-quality concerns.
Maintain organized cooler, freezer, storage, and production areas.
Assist with required department inventory counts.
Team Leadership & Training:
Assist with assigning daily duties and providing direction to bakery associates.
Train associates on department procedures, customer service expectations, food safety, sanitation, production, and recordkeeping.
Help monitor department productivity and completion of assigned work.
Support cross-training and associate development to maintain effective department coverage.
Administrative & Department Support:
- Complete and maintain required department paperwork and records.
- Assist with production charts, sales and labor documentation, temperature logs, and other required records.
- Communicate department goals, priorities, and opportunities to bakery associates.
- Support opening and closing procedures and overall department readiness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
