Seasonal Payroll Manager — Hospitality & Events Fulton Market Social | River North, Chicago$25–$50 per hour | 100% Onsite | Immediate Start Available Fulton Market Social is seeking an experienced Seasonal Payroll Manager to oversee payroll for our pop-ups and hospitality operations. This position works entirely onsite in our River North office; remote and hybrid arrangements are not available. We’re looking for a payroll expert with direct experience supporting restaurants, bars, nightclubs, or hospitality groups. The ideal candidate understands complex tip pools, multiple pay rates, changing schedules, and high-volume seasonal hiring—and can independently manage accurate, timely payroll across multiple venues.
Responsibilities: Own payroll preparation, auditing, processing, and reconciliation across multiple locations and business entities. Review timekeeping records, resolve missing punches and duplicate entries, and verify job codes, pay rates, and manager approvals. Calculate pay accurately for team members working multiple roles or rates, including overtime and applicable regular-rate adjustments. Manage and reconcile tip pools, tip-outs, and tip allocations using approved formulas, eligible roles, and verified hours. Reconcile cash and credit-card tips, tips already distributed, and tips paid through payroll to prevent missed or duplicate payments. Distinguish voluntary tips from mandatory service charges and apply appropriate payroll and tax treatment. Reconcile Square and Toast reports with Paychex and Quick Books Workforce records. Maintain accurate payroll information for new hires, rehires, rate changes, deductions, garnishments, and separations. Track paid leave and sick leave accruals, balances, usage, and required payouts. Coordinate payroll tax reporting, corrections, quarter-end and year-end reconciliation, W-2 accuracy, and applicable tip reporting with accounting and payroll providers. Prepare labor-cost reports by venue, department, and role. Resolve team member payroll questions professionally and confidentially. Establish clear deadlines, approval procedures, and controls that prevent recurring payroll errors.
Qualifications: Five or more years of hands-on payroll experience, including substantial experience with tipped hospitality payroll. Direct payroll experience in restaurants, bars, nightclubs, hospitality groups, or comparable operations. Strong working proficiency with Square, Toast, Paychex, and Quick Books Workforce. Demonstrated expertise in tip pooling, tip allocation methods, tip reporting, lawful pool participation, and minimum-wage shortfall calculations. Experience managing payroll across multiple locations, entities, job classifications, and pay rates. Strong knowledge of federal, Illinois, and Chicago payroll requirements, including wage-and-hour rules, deductions, final pay, paid leave, and recordkeeping. Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, SUMIFS, and payroll reconciliation. Excellent attention to detail, analytical judgment, confidentiality, and follow-through. Ability to work independently, meet firm payroll deadlines, and communicate effectively with managers, accounting, leadership, and team members. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), multi-state payroll experience, and experience supporting seasonal event operations are preferred. Compensation The anticipated base pay range is $25–$50 per hour. The offered rate will be based on relevant hospitality payroll experience, tip-pool expertise, proficiency with our systems, and demonstrated ability to independently manage payroll across multiple venues.
