Retention Specialist Under the general direction of the Associate Dean and Nursing Administrator. The Retention Specialist will be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the student retention and success strategies implemented in the Nursing Department. The Retention Specialist will also participate in departmental college wide activities in keeping with the mission and vision of Baltimore City Community College. It is a full-time 12-month position.
Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Coordinates the pre-entry nursing program
  • Coordinates student development of personal and academic skills necessary to successfully complete nursing programs through guided instruction which is individualized to meet students learning styles
  • Works with faculty to develop alternative teaching strategies to support various student learning styles
  • Co-chairs the nursing program test committee
  • Analyzes test questions for all nursing courses
  • Coordinates development of alternative test formats that are in alignment with changes to the NCLEXAnalyzes data related to student retention and develops retention strategies within nursing
  • Coordinates Licensure preparation exams for the nursing programs
  • Works with the Nurse Associate Dean/Nurse Administration to develop, coordinate and revise success activities within the nursing department
  • Serves as a liaison with BCCC student support services to address nursing students learning needs
  • Provide review, instruction, and support for NCLEX-PN test preparation
  • Collaborate with the Nursing Lab Manager and support staff (nursing tutors and others as needed)
  • Provides theory instruction according to program needs
  • Monitor test success and perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Education: Master's degree in Nursing (MSN)
Experience: Minimum Five (5) years theory and clinical teaching experience in an academic setting, with two (2) years of experience working with Health Professionals which must include the following: Demonstrated leadership experience in the field of nursing (e.g. experience as a Nurse Educator, Nurse Course Coordinator, etc.).Current Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Maryland. Knowledge of Maryland Board of Nursing Pre-licensed nursing and new graduate needs and responsibilities. Demonstrated experience planning and implementing strategies to improve NCLEX pass rates in nursing graduates.
Additional Requirements: CPR certification. Yearly PPD (tuberculin) testing and other health requirements as mandated by clinical sites. BCCC is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
