The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of the Gas division operations, with accountability for safety, operational execution, financial performance, customer relationships, workforce development, and continued growth. The incoming Vice President of Operations will join a strong and experienced team with established operating practices, performance measures, technology, and systems. This leader will build upon that foundation, work collaboratively with existing leaders and team members, and identify opportunities to further strengthen and scale the organization. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Leadership & Strategy Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Gas Division, with accountability for operational and financial performance. Develop and execute short- and long-term strategies to support profitable growth and strengthen the division’s position with existing and future utility customers. Evaluate organizational structure, operating practices, KPIs, and capabilities and identify opportunities to improve and scale the division. Participate as a member of the senior leadership team and contribute to company-wide strategy, organizational development, and growth initiatives. Safety, Quality & Compliance Partner closely with Safety and operational leaders to maintain a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulations and standards. Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, training, and compliance while ensuring leaders and employees understand and embrace their responsibilities. Operational Excellence & Safe Productivity Oversee Gas Division operations and ensure work is completed safely, productively, efficiently, on schedule, and according to customer requirements and quality standards. Use operational data and KPIs to evaluate performance, recognize successes, identify opportunities, and drive accountability and continuous improvement. Lead operational improvements and the effective use of technology, data, and innovative tools to increase productivity, consistency, quality, and scalability. Financial Performance Own the financial performance of the Gas Division, including revenue, gross margin, labor productivity, operating expenses, equipment utilization, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability. Work closely with Finance & Accounting and division leadership to evaluate performance, understand variances, improve forecasting, and strengthen financial results. Customer Relationships & Growth Develop and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key utility customers and serve as a senior point of contact for operational, strategic, and service-related matters. Develop a deep understanding of customer priorities, challenges, and future needs and identify opportunities to expand services, develop new capabilities, and support new business opportunities. People, Teamwork & Leadership Development Lead, support, and develop managers, supervisors, and other key leaders throughout the Gas Division. Partner with HR & Development on workforce planning, recruiting, retention, performance management, succession planning, and leadership development. Maintain strong visibility and engagement with field and office employees while developing the leadership depth necessary to support future growth. What you need. To thrive in this organization, the Vice President of Operations will have:10+ years of progressively responsible operational leadership experience, preferably within natural gas utility construction, utility infrastructure, or a closely related industry. Significant natural gas utility construction or operations experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience leading large field organizations, multiple teams, and complex or geographically dispersed operations. Strong understanding of natural gas construction, installation, maintenance, service, and/or utility operations. Experience with utility contracting, master service agreements, productivity management, and customer-specific operational and compliance requirements preferred. Demonstrated P&L responsibility and experience managing revenue, budgets, labor productivity, operating expenses, forecasting, and profitability. Strong understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory requirements within the natural gas, utility, and construction industries. Proven ability to develop people, earn trust, build high-performing teams, and lead organizational change. Demonstrated ability to build strong customer relationships and successfully resolve complex operational and customer issues. Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and strategic planning skills with the ability to operate effectively at both the strategic and operational levels.
