Merrick Brock, PLLC is looking to add a paralegal / case manager to our growing personal injury practice. Starting salary range is $60,000 - $85,000 depending on experience. As the firm grows, we want the person in this position to grow with it. For someone who feels limited by a high-volume or highly departmentalized environment, this is an opportunity to practice differently. You will not be confined to one small part of the process. You will work directly with an attorney, develop relationships with clients, learn how significant cases are built, and participate in those cases from their earliest stages through litigation and trial. We are wrapping up our eighth year as a firm, and our trajectory is very good. We work hard, keep our caseloads manageable, and are committed to providing excellent service and personal attention to our clients. We handle serious personal injury cases, including cases involving catastrophic injuries. Last year, we resolved four cases for more than $1 million each, and the current year is shaping up to be even better. Our Mission and Culture Our goal is to build an excellent law firm without losing sight of why the firm exists in the first place: to provide excellent service. Our clients are real people, not case numbers or widgets on a spreadsheet. That philosophy shapes how we practice. We keep our caseloads manageable so we can know our clients, give their cases personal attention, and do the work necessary to handle difficult cases well.
The Position: Our goal is to find a person to help manage cases from the beginning through resolution. That means this position will involve both pre-litigation case management and litigation support, with the opportunity to see and participate in the entire life of a case. Because we are a small firm, our support staff also share responsibility for answering incoming calls and handling new client inquiries. Phone and intake coverage rotates among our team members, and this position will participate in that rotation. This is not primarily a receptionist or intake position, but candidates should be comfortable speaking with potential clients, gathering initial information, and helping us provide a prompt and professional response to new inquiries.
Responsibilities include:
  • Managing assigned cases from intake through settlement or litigation
  • Conducting potential client intakes and gathering information for attorney review
  • Opening new files and ensuring necessary information and documentation are collected
  • Maintaining regular and meaningful communication with clients
  • Sending letters of representation and evidence preservation requests
  • Obtaining police reports, photographs, videos, insurance information, medical records, bills, and other evidence
  • Tracking medical treatment, insurance coverage, liens, and subrogation interests
  • Communicating with insurance adjusters, medical providers, witnesses, and other third parties
  • Assisting attorneys with settlement demands and negotiations
  • Preparing and filing pleadings and other court documents
  • Assisting with written discovery, subpoenas, document production, and deposition preparation
  • Calendaring and monitoring litigation deadlines
  • Organizing records, exhibits, discovery, and other case materials
  • Assisting with mediation and trial preparation
  • Proactively identifying what needs to happen next to keep cases moving forward Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone who is organized, dependable, personable, and willing to take ownership of their work. The right person will be comfortable wearing several hats. On a small team, everyone pitches in. Attention to detail is essential, but we also value someone who can see the bigger picture of a case, anticipate what needs to happen next, and communicate well with both clients and attorneys. Personal injury experience is preferred but not required. Litigation experience is a significant plus. Experience with Filevine, Lead Docket, or similar systems is also a plus, but not required. Because we keep our caseloads manageable, this is an opportunity to be meaningfully involved in cases rather than simply processing a high volume of files. It is an exciting time at this firm. We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the firm and become an important part of our team. To be considered, you must submit a resume and cover letter to patterson@merrickbrock.com The cover letter should answer the following questions: 1. Why are you interested in this position and in working at a small, growing personal injury firm? 2. Tell us about an experience from your work history that you believe best demonstrates why you would succeed in this position. 3. What is your favorite book and why? All inquiries, applications, and referrals will be kept confidential.
