Apply for this role →We are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead the accounting function for a growing, mid-sized SaaS organization. Reporting to senior finance leadership, this individual will oversee the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, technical accounting, and internal controls. The ideal candidate combines a strong public accounting foundation with hands-on corporate accounting leadership experience, preferably within a SaaS, technology, or recurring-revenue environment. This role requires a CPA who can operate at both a strategic and detailed level—developing scalable accounting processes while remaining close enough to the business to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP.Oversee core accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, accruals, reconciliations, and fixed assets. Manage the preparation and review of monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Serve as the internal accounting expert for technical accounting matters, including revenue recognition under ASC 606, leases, capitalization policies, and other applicable GAAP requirements. Oversee accounting for SaaS and recurring-revenue arrangements, including deferred revenue, contract modifications, commissions, and related balance sheet accounts. Develop, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and close processes as the organization scales. Lead the annual financial statement audit and serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Partner with FP&A, Finance, Sales, Legal, Operations, and executive leadership to ensure accounting implications are appropriately considered in business decisions. Manage, mentor, and develop members of the accounting team while establishing clear expectations and accountability. Identify opportunities to improve the company's ERP, financial systems, reporting tools, and accounting automation. Support budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and other broader finance initiatives as needed. Assist with due diligence, acquisitions, system implementations, or other strategic projects as the company continues to grow.
Qualifications:
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including increasing levels of leadership responsibility. CPA required. Prior experience with a public accounting firm required; Big Four or national/regional public accounting experience strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements. Experience with ASC 606 revenue recognition and subscription or recurring-revenue business models strongly preferred. Prior experience within a SaaS, software, technology, or similarly complex environment preferred. Demonstrated experience managing month-end close, external audits, and internal controls. Experience leading and developing accounting professionals. Strong ERP and financial systems experience; familiarity with platforms such as Net Suite is a plus. Ability to improve processes and build scalable accounting infrastructure in a growing organization. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both accounting professionals and non-finance business leaders.
