Apply for this role →LHH is partnering with an environmentally focused regional nonprofit seeking a Director of Finance to oversee the organization's financial management, administrative operations, and organizational infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this leadership role serves as a strategic partner to senior management and is responsible for ensuring sound financial stewardship, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and effective support of the organization's mission-driven activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash management, financial reporting, accounting oversight, and annual audit coordination. Ensure compliance with accounting standards, federal and state grant requirements, organizational policies, and regulatory reporting obligations. Manage financial aspects of government grants, contracts, and vendor relationships, including monitoring deliverables, contract compliance, and indirect cost recovery. Oversee procurement processes, contractor selection, purchasing activities, and contract administration to ensure consistency with budgets and applicable guidelines. Direct administrative operations including facility management, records retention, asset inventory, office procedures, and organizational policy development. Partner with leadership on human resources functions, including recruitment support, onboarding, employee benefits administration, personnel records, and policy compliance. Coordinate with external service providers, including auditors, accounting firms, IT consultants, and benefits administrators. Supervise and develop finance and administrative staff while implementing process improvements and supporting organizational effectiveness.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required; CPA, MBA, or other advanced credential preferred. Progressive leadership experience in finance and operations within a nonprofit, public-sector, or mission-driven organization. Strong knowledge of budgeting, cash management, audits, internal controls, and GAAP.Experience with federal grants and compliance reporting strongly preferred. Demonstrated understanding of contract management, RFP/RFQ processes, indirect cost rate administration, and vendor oversight. Familiarity with human resources administration, employee benefits, and organizational policy development. Strong communication, leadership, and relationship management skills, with experience supervising staff and driving operational improvements.
