Project Accountant

Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite

Salary: $90,000–$100,000 + benefits

About the Opportunity: A well-established commercial general contractor is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join its growing team in Deerfield Beach. This position will play an important role in managing the financial administration of construction projects, partnering closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, vendors, subcontractors, and the corporate accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented accounting professional who understands the unique financial and administrative requirements of commercial construction.

Key Responsibilities: Manage the accounting and financial administration for assigned construction projects. Monitor project budgets, costs, commitments, and expenditures. Process and review vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy and proper coding. Track purchase orders, contracts, change orders, commitments, and project expenses. Review subcontractor pay applications and supporting documentation. Assist with monthly project accounting and financial close processes. Prepare and maintain project cost reports and financial documentation. Reconcile project accounts and investigate discrepancies. Monitor accounts payable and receivable activity related to assigned projects. Work closely with Project Managers to identify cost variances and potential issues. Maintain accurate project files, documentation, and accounting records. Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and project financial reporting. Communicate with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams regarding invoices, payments, and account questions. Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and construction procedures. Support the accounting team with additional financial and project-related responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications: 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the commercial construction industry. Experience with project accounting, job costing, construction accounting, or cost accounting. Strong understanding of AP, AR, invoices, purchase orders, contracts, and project expenses. Experience working with subcontractors and vendors is highly preferred. Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting/project management software. Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies or cost issues. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Construction accounting software experience such as Procore, Sage, Viewpoint, CMiC, or similar is a plus.
