Apply for this role →Senior Geospatial Software Architect / PostGIS Data Engineer — Telecom Intelligence Platform Inside Towers is developing the next generation of its U.S. wireless infrastructure intelligence database and is seeking an experienced geospatial software architect/data engineer to help design the platform, develop the migration strategy from our existing system, and help define the technical team and roadmap for subsequent development. The platform combines proprietary Inside Towers data with large government datasets, including FCC Antenna Structure Registration (ASR), Universal Licensing System (ULS), and potentially FAA and other public structure data. The project involves database architecture, large-scale data migration, automated data ingestion and updating, geospatial/entity matching, data provenance, and a modern map-centric web application. One particularly interesting technical challenge is developing methods to associate FCC licensing records with physical communications structures using geographic proximity and other attributes, while distinguishing deterministic matches, high-confidence inferred matches, ambiguous candidates and unmatched records. The system should ultimately support explainable and refinable confidence scoring rather than simply assuming that the nearest geographic record is correct. We are initially seeking a senior architect/engineer for a paid Discovery & Architecture engagement, with the potential to lead or participate in development of the complete platform. Essential experience Strong experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, database architecture and data engineering is essential. We are particularly interested in candidates who have built production geospatial applications involving large datasets, spatial matching, entity resolution, government-data ingestion or similar data-association problems. Additional relevant experience includes: Python and large-scale ETL/data pipelines Complex database migrations and reconciliationGIS application developmentREST APIsAWS or comparable cloud platforms Mapbox / Map Libre React / Next.js Government bulk datasetsFCC dataFAA/aviation or other large public geospatial datasets Telecommunications / wireless infrastructure SaaS application development Data visualization Direct FCC or telecommunications experience is desirable but not required. This is not primarily a website-development assignment. We are looking for someone capable of architecting the underlying geospatial/data platform and migration process, while also understanding the customer-facing application that will be built upon it. We favor widely used, maintainable technologies and architectures that avoid unnecessary vendor lock-in. Initial engagement The first phase will be a paid Discovery & Architecture engagement. It will include reviewing the existing system and data; inventorying existing data and functionality; developing the proposed PostgreSQL/PostGIS architecture and data model; designing the migration and validation strategy; defining government-data ingestion/update processes; developing an initial methodology for geospatial/entity matching; establishing performance, security and reliability requirements; and helping define the scope, development team and architecture for subsequent phases. A more detailed RFP describing the project and Discovery Phase deliverables will be provided to qualified candidates. About Inside Towers Inside Towers provides news, information and intelligence to professionals throughout the wireless infrastructure industry. Our audience includes tower owners, wireless carriers, infrastructure companies, investors, service providers and other participants in the communications infrastructure ecosystem. To apply Please provide a brief description of your relevant experience and answer these three questions:1. What is the most relevant PostgreSQL/PostGIS application you have personally designed or built? What was your specific role?2. Describe a project in which you associated records from separate datasets using geographic proximity and other attributes. How did you handle ambiguous matches?3. Describe your experience migrating a complex production database. How did you validate that records, relationships and files were migrated completely and accurately? Please include links to relevant applications, Git Hub repositories or other examples of your work where possible.
