Position Overview: A growing personal injury law firm is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Accounting Clerk to join its Accounting Department. This position is responsible for providing accounting, bookkeeping, financial, and administrative support while helping ensure the accuracy and integrity of the firm’s financial records. The Accounting Clerk will assist with bank reconciliations, check disbursements, account research, recordkeeping, and the resolution of accounting and documentation discrepancies. The position also requires communication with clients, family members, and internal departments regarding payment-related matters. The ideal candidate is highly organized, comfortable working with sensitive financial and client information, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities: Perform bank reconciliations for the firm’s trust, operating, and cost accounts. Research, identify, and resolve discrepancies involving check disbursements and other financial transactions. Communicate professionally and empathetically with clients and/or authorized family members regarding uncashed or outstanding checks. Work closely with other departments to identify and minimize payment delays involving probate matters, Medicare liens, and other settlement-related issues. Assist with tracking payments, disbursements, outstanding items, and supporting financial documentation. Provide general bookkeeping and clerical support to the Accounting Department. Enter, maintain, and verify financial information within the firm’s accounting systems. Maintain the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of financial transactions, reports, and client information. Organize, file, and maintain accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with firm procedures. Assist the Controller and Accounting Department with research, reporting, audits, and special projects as needed. Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university; equivalent relevant experience may be considered. Previous bookkeeping, accounting clerk, accounts payable/receivable, or similar financial experience preferred. Experience working in a law firm, personal injury practice, or other professional services environment is a plus. Proficiency in QuickBooks required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook. Strong computer skills with a high level of accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies. Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet established deadlines. Sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently while collaborating with a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Professional, courteous, and empathetic demeanor when communicating with clients and their families. Ability to handle confidential, sensitive, and financial information with discretion.
