Blackberry Removal Volunteer Day Blackberries have taken over sections of the hillside at Point Defiance Park, choking out native plants and blocking wildlife habitat. We're pulling together a crew of volunteers to cut it back and help the native understory recover — and we'd love your help. No experience necessary. Just bring your energy and we'll handle the rest. What to Bring Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots Long pants and long sleeves (blackberry thorns are no joke) Work gloves, if you have them Water bottle and sun protection A little enthusiasm for getting your hands dirty What We'll Provide Loppers, pruners, and removal tools Extra gloves for anyone who needs them Light snacks and water refills Guidance from park staff / restoration leads Why It Matters Removing blackberry opens space for native plants to thrive again — improving habitat for birds and pollinators and helping restore the hillside's natural balance. Every bramble pulled makes a visible difference.
