Public Accounting / Client Accounting ServicesA growing and well-established accounting firm in Southern California is looking to add an Accounting Services Manager to its team. This is a newly created leadership opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys building teams, improving processes, and working closely with clients. The Accounting Services Manager will lead the firm's accounting services function, overseeing a team responsible for delivering bookkeeping and financial reporting services to a diverse group of clients. This person will have a significant role in developing the team, establishing scalable processes, and improving overall efficiency and client service.
Responsibilities:
Lead, develop, and retain the accounting services team, including recruiting, onboarding, training, mentoring, and performance management. Manage team workflow, capacity, and production schedules to ensure client work is completed accurately and on time. Oversee bookkeeping and financial statement preparation for multiple clients. Review financial reporting and identify errors, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement. Develop and document accounting processes and SOPs to create a scalable and consistent workflow. Improve workflow, review procedures, turnaround times, and overall team efficiency. Manage multiple client engagements and competing deadlines. Assist with scoping engagements, pricing, and setting client expectations. Monitor budgets, engagement profitability, production timelines, and team capacity. Prepare and manage work-in-progress reporting and provide updates to leadership. Work directly with clients and internal leadership to address accounting needs and resolve issues. Identify opportunities to expand services and support new business opportunities. Track team performance and key operational metrics. Help foster a positive, collaborative, and accountable team environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.7+ years of accounting experience.2+ years of experience managing or building an accounting team. Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and financial statement workflows. Experience working with multiple clients and deliverables simultaneously. Experience developing and documenting accounting processes and SOPs. Strong understanding of financial reporting and accounting operations. Experience improving processes and increasing efficiency. Experience with engagement budgets, profitability, capacity planning, or production management. Strong client communication and relationship management skills. Proficiency with Quick Books Online and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, make decisions, and take ownership of responsibilities. CPA or equivalent designation is strongly preferred. Ideal Background The ideal candidate will come from a public accounting, client accounting services, outsourced accounting, or similar multi-client environment and have experience managing an accounting team. We're looking for someone who is comfortable being both a people leader and a technical accounting resource.
