LHH has partnered with a well-established, privately owned real estate organization is seeking a Tax Manager to join its corporate tax team. This position will support a diverse portfolio of real estate investments and operating businesses, with significant responsibility for partnership taxation, individual and trust compliance, tax planning, and transaction support.
Responsibilities: Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for partnerships, corporations, individuals, and trusts, along with the related workpapers and supporting schedules. Research and address complex real estate partnership tax matters, pass-through entity tax elections, and business loss limitations. Develop tax planning recommendations designed to minimize liabilities, improve tax efficiency, and identify potential exposures. Support tax analysis for acquisitions, dispositions, financings, ownership changes, entity restructurings, and Section 1031 exchanges. Evaluate book-to-tax differences and coordinate with accounting professionals to ensure that transactions are reflected accurately for tax purposes. Assist with the preparation and review of multi-year tax projections, estimated payments, and liability or refund tracking. Identify opportunities involving bonus depreciation, tax-loss utilization, Section 199A deductions, accounting methods, and other real estate tax strategies. Partner with internal accounting, legal, operations, and leadership teams to evaluate the tax implications of business initiatives and proposed transactions. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, research emerging tax matters, and communicate potential business implications. Maintain strong documentation and internal controls across the tax function. Identify opportunities to improve tax workflows, reporting processes, and the use of systems and technology.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. Progressive tax experience within public accounting, a privately held business, or a combination of both. Strong technical knowledge of partnership and pass-through taxation, preferably involving real estate investments, development activity, joint ventures, or closely held entities. Experience with individual, high-net-worth, trust, estate, or gift taxation is highly desirable. Familiarity with real estate partnership concepts such as capital accounts, basis, special allocations, Section 754 elections, Section 743(b) adjustments, and ownership changes. Ability to prepare or review multiple types of returns, including Forms 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1040, and 1041.Strong Excel capabilities and experience working with tax preparation or workflow software. Excellent analytical and research skills, including the ability to interpret tax guidance and apply it to business transactions. Proactive, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of assignments in a collaborative environment. CPA strongly preferred, but candidates actively pursuing certification or offering highly relevant technical experience will also be considered.
