Position Summary: As part of the Division Quality – Metrology group, this role will lead metrology technology transfer from R&D to production lines and provide leadership in problem solving and technical expertise in the metrology area.
Key Responsibilities: Lead metrology projects from concept through implementation to support R&D-to-manufacturing transfer and production readiness, including metrology planning, gauge development, system qualification, deployment, and production release. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including QA, engineering, manufacturing, software, and controls teams to implement robust measurement solutions. Develop metrology strategies considering gauge capability, capacity, lead time, and cost evaluation. Survey, develop, deploy, and qualify new capable gauges and measurement systems to meet new test requirements relating to critical product characteristics, including: Glass defects, Glass size, Weight, Reliability, Optical performance, Mechanical characteristics, Other critical product attributes. Design, improve, and validate new test methods using existing metrology systems. Support the design and development of fixtures and tools used in metrology systems. Develop measurement data reporting, traceability, usability, and data analysis applications when deploying new gauges or new test methods and continue improvement afterwards. Partner with controls and software engineers to develop operator interfaces, data collection systems, and databases that support effective use of measurement systems. Document gauges' engineering or operational work instructions and summarize measurement systems development and qualification reports. Train users and provide technical support for deployed metrology systems. Provide metrology technical leadership in 2nd-level troubleshooting of metrology issues, performing root cause analysis, and implementing sustainable corrective actions for plant gauges. Lead and drive gauge alignment and metrology standardization, including MSA, across internal plants, contract manufacturers, and customer sites as needed. Evaluate current gauge capability and capacity and drive continuous improvement, governance, and long-term metrology capability development. Education RequiredBS or higher; Master's preferred
Required Skills: Knowledge of metrology – calibration traceability, data uncertainty, gauge qualification types, etc. Knowledge of MSAFamiliarity with MS Office tools Familiarity with Minitab/Origin Familiarity with MATLAB/Python Basic statistics and reporting capability Good communication skills Familiarity with Machine Vision is a plus Working experience in a test lab or glass defects inspection system development is a plus Travel & Work Schedule 5% domestic travel depending on project stage and schedule to Corning, NY.
