Seasonal Downhill Snowboard InstructorHOURS January 7, 2027 - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. January 10, 2027 - 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Thursdays, January 14 - February 25, 2027 - 4:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Additional hours as needed This is a seasonal position and is therefore temporary in nature. Position ends at the end of the season. NATURE OF WORKUnder the general supervision of the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor, plans, implements and evaluates Downhill snowboard lessons and club program for individuals with disabilities.
Job Duties: ESSENTIAL DUTIESActively works with the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor to plan for the upcoming season including two trainings and six weeks of lessons. Assists with recruiting volunteers. Helps to plan and lead the Instructor trainings. Assists with the placement of students with volunteer Instructors. Assists with registration/check-in each night of lessons as well as the two trainings. Assists with lessons as needed, makes recommendations and gives input to volunteer Instructors. Prepares any necessary reports and forms (i.e. accident reports, evaluations).Effectively communicates with the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor, parents/family-members, and Instructors about the program and participant progress. Develops and maintains professional relationships with volunteers, supervisors and program participants and their family members. Maintains and takes care of equipment, materials and facilities. Ensures safety precautions are taken at all times. Coordinates efforts to ensure Richfield is an equitable, inclusive and respectful organization and supports the City's mission, vision and core values. Completes all other duties assigned by the Adaptive Recreation Supervisor.
COMPETENCIES: Extensive knowledge of snowboarding skills. Knowledge of principles and practices of adaptive programs for individuals with disabilities. Knowledge of principles and practices of supervising and training staff and volunteers. Ability to teach and provide snowboard instruction to volunteers and students. Ability to plan, organize and direct. Ability to work independently and take initiative on projects. Ability to work with and communicate with a wide variety of people and ages. Ability to arrive at work on time and must be available for the entire season with limited time off requests. Demonstrates enthusiasm to work with youth and adults with disabilities. Demonstrates ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust be 18 years of age or older. PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONSEducational background and/or experience working with various disabilities. Extensive experience as a snowboard Instructor. Fluency in Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese or other non-English language prevalent in the City of Richfield Supplemental InformationWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The physical demands that are described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must have the ability to: Maintain physical condition necessary for moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting, bending, and lifting materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 lbs.
