Brief Position Overview: The Department of English, Philosophy and Modern Languages invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English, Writing, and Composition or a closely related field to begin fall 2027. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in English composition with the possibility of teaching other writing and literature courses during the academic year. Opportunities to develop additional courses in the candidate’s specialty area exist. The successful candidate will also hold the position of Writing Program Coordinator, which includes conducting peer reviews of part‑time composition instructors, providing pedagogical support for composition faculty, meeting with writing instructors, developing methods for composition placement, assessing the effectiveness of the composition program (including the placement of students and the usefulness of the enhanced composition courses), and overseeing and developing a comprehensive plan across the university for the composition program. Other expected duties include advising students; service to the department, college, and/or university committees; contributions to the department’s ongoing assessment and curricular needs; and an active research, presentation, and publication agenda. A secondary expertise in Creative Writing is preferred. The teaching load for Assistant Professor at MSUB is 21 credits for the academic year with reassigned time for the position of Writing Program Coordinator. Summer teaching opportunities are available but are not required. Required Qualifications: Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills PhD in English, Composition, or closely related field ( ABD considered) Appropriate background in the needed area(s) of specialization Ability and interest in undergraduate teaching Experience teaching professional and/or technical writing Experience with and commitment to working with diverse student populations Ability and willingness to develop and teach sections/courses using onsite, online, hybrid, and/or Hyflex delivery methods
