Distribution Underground Equipment Operator - Chattanooga

Location: Chattanooga, TN Position Reports To: Crew Foreman Job Classification: Full Time / Non-Exempt Company: Electra Grid Solutions The Distribution Underground Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment to support the installation and maintenance of underground electrical distribution systems. This role includes trenching for conduit and cable, transporting equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The ideal candidate is an experienced operator with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety.

Job Duties and Responsibilities: Safely operate a mini excavator and other equipment for trenching electrical conduit and cable. Drive and transport equipment to and from job sites in compliance with DOT regulations. Inspect trucks and equipment before and after use; report maintenance or repair needs promptly. Assist with loading and unloading materials and equipment. Adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and industry standards. Job Requirements: Previous experience as an equipment operator (required).Class A CDL (required).Strong work ethic and ability to work in a team environment. Ability to handle physically demanding tasks and work in outdoor environments. Must pass background check, drug, and alcohol testing. Willingness to travel to various job sites and work extended hours as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proficiency in operating mini excavators and related heavy equipment. Knowledge of trenching practices and underground utility installation. Ability to identify and address safety hazards promptly. Strong communication and organizational skills. Commitment to safety and quality standards.

Working Conditions: Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Exposure to electrical hazards, heavy equipment, and construction site conditions. Frequent travel to various job sites with occasional overnight stays. Work hours may vary depending on project requirements and emergency response situations.

Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Frequent bending, climbing, stooping, and standing for extended periods. Comfortable working in physically demanding environments and operating heavy equipment.
