About Us: For more than 50 years, MAC Products has designed and built equipment for transmitting, distributing, and controlling electrical power, mainly for the electric utility and electrified transit industries. Our 4.5-acre South Kearny facility combines CNC and conventional manufacturing with a fully equipped quality assurance lab.
The Role: We're a low-volume, high-mix shop, so every job can be different. We need a Lead QC Inspector who doesn't stop at finding a defect; they trace it to its root cause and work with manufacturing and engineering to fix it for good. You'll be the go-to person for our inspectors, assigning daily work and helping the team grow. Reports to the Quality Manager.
What You'll Do: Inspect machined and fabricated metal parts and assemblies across a wide product range Assign and prioritize daily inspection work for the QC team Coach inspectors on measurement, blueprint reading, and inspection methods Investigate nonconformances to root cause and drive corrective actions with manufacturing and engineering Document and close out nonconformances and corrective actions Perform visual weld inspection (training provided)
Requirements: Minimum High school diploma or GED5+ years of hands-on QC inspection in machining, metal fabrication, or industrial manufacturing Low-volume, high-mix experience (job shop, custom fabrication, industrial equipment)Strong skills with calipers, micrometers, height, bore, and thread gauges, and indicators Blueprint reading and working knowledge of GD&TProven root-cause problem solving (5 Whys, fishbone, 8D)Experience training others or serving as a team's go-to person Self-motivated and a clear communicator Experience limited to pharmaceutical, laboratory, or high-volume single-product QC generally isn't a match for this role.
Nice to Have: Visual weld inspection experience; AWS CWIFirst article inspection or CMM experienceNCR/CAPA systems and ISO 9001 Basic electrical checks (continuity, wiring against schematics)Utility or rail/transit product experience Technical school or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or qualityASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
