Salary: US$195,000 - US$205,000 per year Organisation: Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) The Senior Director, Brand & Communications will provide strategic and creative leadership for RPA's brand, voice, communications, and organizational narrative across internal and external channels. Reporting to the Co-Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Director will oversee brand management, digital and media strategy, executive communications, storytelling, and internal communications. The role will ensure that RPA's communications clearly reflect its mission and values while strengthening its visibility, credibility, stakeholder engagement, and business development. The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of narrative change and the ability to translate complex philanthropic and social-impact work into compelling, accessible communications for diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities: Strategic Communications Strategy and Execution Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and branding strategy aligned with RPA's mission and strategic plan. Establish clear and cohesive messaging across newsletters, websites, social media, publications, and other communications channels. Refine RPA's voice, brand, and narrative around justice, equity, cultural competence, and community-centred messaging. Develop audience-specific communications approaches that support organizational sustainability, donor development, and partnerships. External Communications and Public Engagement Lead media relations, including proactive press outreach, rapid response, and journalist relationship management. Oversee digital strategy and content across websites, social media, newsletters, and multimedia storytelling. Partner with executive leadership and teams across the organization to support communications for major initiatives, events, campaigns, and thought leadership activities. Provide executive counsel and risk-based communications guidance on complex, sensitive, or high-visibility matters. Maintain enterprise-wide awareness of major sponsored project communications. Develop and oversee processes for tracking communications initiatives, campaigns, and outreach. Internal Communications Design and implement internal communications systems that strengthen employee connection, clarity, and organizational alignment. Support transparent and timely communications during periods of change, growth, and strategic planning. Develop resources to help staff participate effectively in media opportunities, public engagements, social media, and other communications activities. Support message alignment and media training across the organization. Media, Brand Stewardship and Visibility Protect and strengthen RPA's brand identity and voice across all organizational touchpoints. Ensure consistency in visual identity, tone, messaging, and brand assets. Manage organizational media presence, including media pitching, placements, and relationships. Develop strategic visibility opportunities for the Co-CEOs, executive leadership, and other colleagues. Partner with functional leaders to position organizational leaders and experts effectively in external engagements. Maintain a coherent and values-aligned brand experience. Leadership and Management Directly supervise communications staff. Manage external vendors, agencies, and consultants. Collaborate with cross-functional leaders on integrated campaigns and messaging. Provide organizational-level expertise and guidance on communications planning and execution. Exercise broad decision-making authority in developing communications and brand strategies. Navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and complex organizational challenges while maintaining alignment with strategic objectives. Key Qualifications and Experience Candidates should demonstrate: A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.12 or more years of relevant professional experience. Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Senior-level experience developing and implementing communications strategies, including digital communications strategies. Experience working within a nonprofit, philanthropic, social-impact, or mission-driven organization. Strong understanding of social justice, equity-focused language, and narrative change principles. Demonstrated experience managing media relationships and digital platforms. Familiarity with philanthropy-sector audiences and the communications needs of donors, grantees, partners, staff, and other stakeholders. Experience overseeing and strengthening brand identity systems. Strong strategic judgment and the ability to translate complex issues into compelling communications. Proven ability to advise senior executives on communications, public positioning, and reputation-related matters.
