Position Summary: Sterling Multi-Chem supplies production chemicals and associated services to customers in the oil and gas industry. The Chemical Account Manager - Trainee is an advanced-level position for an individual with demonstrated problem-solving and account management skills who can work independently under most circumstances. This role manages either one large account or multiple accounts while growing and expanding the business in a geographic area, and mentors less experienced Field Service Representatives.
Essential Functions: Comply with all Sterling Multi-Chem safety policies Manage one large account or multiple accounts while growing business with existing customers and developing new opportunities in a geographic area Independently manage an assigned group of wells, locations, fields, or customers Mentor Field Service Representatives and assist them in problem-solving situations Assist the Field Service Manager and other Account Managers as needed Set up, maintain, and repair chemical pumps, including selecting the right pump type for the application Check and set chemical injection rates based on recommended rates Safely collect samples as part of customer monitoring programs, including removing and installing equipment under pressure Conduct all field testing, including water analysis and sample preservation Conduct advanced field-level product testing and selection, including demulsifier bottle testing, water clarifier testing, tailgate solids analysis, paraffin solvency, and product compatibility Perform advanced troubleshooting and problem solving Undertake and manage special projects, and provide documentation and recommendations that deliver value to the customer Prepare and deliver professional presentations for customer meetings Compile and report data to the manager and customers Submit orders and retrieve account management data through company systems Provide excellent customer service to all customers and field office personnel Maintain the highest level of safety at all times Work well independently and in a team environment
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required; Read, write, and speak English fluently Associate's or bachelor's degree in any field preferred 4+ years' experience in oil and gas production chemistry Demonstrated ability to manage one large account or multiple accounts while growing the business in a geographic area Able to interpret laboratory results and monitoring data Advanced understanding of the well and associated production equipment (wellhead, downhole, and topside equipment), with the ability to explain it Valid driver's license required; Class A or B CDL preferred, or the ability to obtain one
Skills & Abilities
Computer Skills: Basic computer and phone skills — able to navigate a web browser, follow online instructions, type, and use phone apps and maps. Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) and able to use advanced computer-based modeling programs. Record Keeping: Able to compile and report data to managers and customers and use company systems to place orders and retrieve account data.
Equipment Skills: Able to proficiently use basic hand tools and to use and explain basic monitoring tools, including a centrifuge, tank thief, dissolved O2 kit, dissolved H2S kit, Gas-Tech and sampling tubes, and Millipore filter apparatus. Able to safely use sampling equipment under a range of pressures. Account Management: Exceptional time management skills; able to maintain an acceptable level of business while assisting others, and to present to customers in a professional manner. Critical Thinking: Demonstrated advanced problem-solving skills; able to analyze data, troubleshoot problems, and make sound decisions independently.
Customer Service Skills: Meet internal and external commitments, respond promptly to customer needs, and seek customer feedback to improve service. Work Ethic: Dependable, trustworthy, and credible in the workplace. Displays a sincere desire to help, follows instructions, and takes ownership of their work. Physical Abilities: Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: Indoors and outdoors, with driving involved, often at well sites, production facilities, and customer offices. Employees may work in temperature extremes and may be exposed to H2S (hydrogen sulfide). Manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude are helpful. Required safety equipment may include a hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, gloves, and an H2S monitor.
