Department Information The History and Philosophy Department prepares students foradaptable, fulfilling careers by teaching a core set oftransferable knowledge and skills through research, analyzing andassessing evidence, and articulating sound conclusions both orallyand in writing. Students learn about the larger world by studyingsocieties, cultures, and economies across a broad chronological andgeographical spectrum, which makes them better global citizens, problem solvers, and communicators. Job Summary: Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for afull-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of History in the Department of History and Philosophy with apreferred start date of August 2027. This is a nine-monthcontracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.
Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in history, including History of Georgia, US History surveys, and upper level electivessuch as Jacksonian America, Civil War and Reconstruction, Historical Methods, Research Seminars, and others in field ofexpertise. Faculty are expected to teach courses of variable sizeand modalities, including large class sizes when necessary, and on Kennesaw and/or Marietta campuses. Produce and disseminate high-quality, meaningful scholarship inhistory or a closely related field Pursue external funding to support research andscholarship Serve the department/college/university/professionalcommunity Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOCFaculty Credentials Guidelines.
Required Qualifications: An earned Ph. D. degree, or the foreign equivalent, in History, or a closely related field, is required at the time of hire. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, mentorship, and promoting student success at the university level, such as, butnot limited to, undergraduateteaching experience Demonstrated potential for research and scholarship within thediscipline, such as, but not limited to, peer-reviewedpublications, academic presentations, andexternal fundingapplications Demonstrated potential for excellence in service to thecollege, university, profession, and/or community
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and supportingundergraduate student success in different modalities and differentcourse sizes Evidence of sustained research agenda in US history prior to 1877 Experience applying for and/or working on extramural fundingapplications Demonstrated interest in or experience with digitalhumanities Required Documents to Attach CV Cover Letteraddressing their teaching philosophy and experience, researchagenda, and their approach to teaching Georgia history Unofficial Transcripts (Official Transcripts and Official International Course-by-Course Evaluations Due Upon Hire) Names, phonenumbers, and email addresses of at least 3 references.
