Apply for this role →The Litigation Paralegal provides case-management and litigation support to attorneys throughout discovery, motion practice, hearings, and trial preparation. The role requires accuracy, sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines with attorney supervision.
Job Duties:
The following are essential job duties and responsibilities of a litigation paralegal. The list is not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned as necessary.
- Ensure all documents comply with court formatting standards and local filing rules and file documents with appropriate courts in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare, serve, track, and follow up on subpoenas; communicate with providers, record custodians, vendors, and other third parties to obtain records and monitor compliance.
- Assist with discovery, including drafting requests and responses, organizing productions, maintaining document indexes, and supporting electronic document review.
- Conduct factual and legal research and summarize findings for attorney review.
- Draft and proofread correspondence, pleadings, discovery materials, chronologies, damages summaries, and other litigation documents.
- Review records, bills, case files, and other evidence, and prepare organized case-reference materials.
- Maintain litigation calendars and tracking systems for court dates, discovery deadlines, depositions, and internal milestones.
- Support motion practice, depositions, hearings, and trials by preparing exhibits, witness materials, trial binders, questionnaires, PowerPoint presentations, and related logistics.
- Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, courts, vendors, and outside counsel, and maintain organized physical and electronic case files and databases.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Experience:
5-8 years of litigation paralegal experience. Knowledge/Skills and Abilities
To succeed in this role, an individual will need a robust set of skills and qualifications, including:
Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and collaboratively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Working knowledge of legal terminology, litigation procedures, court rules, and common legal-document formats.
Ability to conduct legal and factual research and prepare concise summaries for attorney review.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and PDF software; experience with NetDocuments, Westlaw, LEXIS, or litigation-support platforms (such as Relativity) is a plus.
Experience with electronic court filing (such as PACER and NYSCEF) is a plus.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate files, records, calendars, and tracking systems.
Professional, reliable, discreet, and collaborative demeanor, with the ability to work in the office on a daily basis as required. Essential Physical/Mental Demands
