Apply for this role →Director of Research Operations and Education We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Research Operations and Education based in Aurora, CO to lead clinical study operations and workforce development. Reporting directly to the VP of Research Operations, you will provide critical leadership for over 110 clinical research professionals and oversee the infrastructure for 450+ active clinical trials. Working alongside physicians, investigators, and institutional leaders, you will drive institutional compliance, process assessments, and research education to ensure the successful execution of high-quality, complex clinical studies. Responsibilities:
Lead and manage a large multidisciplinary clinical research organization of ~110 team members (including 3 direct leadership reports), overseeing sub-departments such as clinical research coordination, regulatory affairs, financial operations, project management, and contracting. Oversee institutional compliance, process assessments, and comprehensive research education/competency, ensuring all research meets strict federal, financial, and legal regulatory requirements. Participate in organizational strategic planning, developing and overseeing department budgets, financial performance, and hospital-wide research feasibility and start-up processes. Support investigator teams across all sponsor types (government, non-profit, industry) and trial phases, facilitating seamless protocol implementation and intellectual property management. Build and model a high-performance, inclusive culture through effective recruitment, training, management, and career development of the clinical research workforce.
Required Skills:
8+ years of clinical research operations experience within a healthcare setting or Academic Medical Center, alongside 5+ years of dedicated management and leadership experience. True Director-level experience overseeing a large, complex team with a minimum of 80+ indirect reports and high operational volume. Broad technical depth and understanding of clinical research infrastructure, including pre/post-award financial management, regulatory compliance, proposal submissions, contracts, and protocol implementation across all trial phases.
