Spring And Summer 2027 Internship Opportunities The Cap Times is an independent newsroom serving Madison and Wisconsin. The Cap Times encourages college students and recent graduates to apply for its paid, 12-week internship program, which provides coaching, mentoring and training opportunities with a team of award-winning journalists. Our interns are full-time general assignment reporters working 37.5 hours per week. They typically write two or three news articles each week, and may produce more as news developments require and fewer when working on in-depth coverage. Interns sometimes collaborate on articles with staff reporters, as well. The Cap Times is accepting applications to hire one spring 2027 intern and one summer 2027 intern. The start date for both positions is flexible. The spring intern will start in early January, while the summer intern will start in late May or early June. Interns typically work weekdays and set their schedules from week to week in consultation with their editors. Some work may include evenings or weekends. Interns may work with their editor to schedule unpaid time off for vacations or trips. A laptop is provided. Access to a car is not required but encouraged. Some public transit is available near the Cap Times' office on Fish Hatchery Road, about two miles south of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. The most competitive applicants are often journalism students, recent graduates or postgraduates with prior reporting experience. Desired skills include clear writing, excellent communication, proficiency in AP style, cultural competency, and knowledge of Madison and/or Wisconsin. Previous interns have gone on to work in reporting positions for Bloomberg, Politico, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel — as well as the Cap Times. The Cap Times is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. Students and graduates from historically underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply. To be considered for an internship, please submit your resume, a one-page cover letter explaining your interest in the position and three samples of your work to News & Investigations Editor Keegan Kyle at kkyle@captimes.com. If you are applying for only the spring internship or only the summer internship, please make that clear in your application materials. The application deadline is Nov. 8, 2026.Pre-employment background and drug screenings apply. About The Cap TimesThe Cap Times (formally, The Capital Times) has a rich, deep history in Madison.
