Certified EMS Trainer Job Overview: This Certified EMS Trainer Job focuses on EMS control room training, SCADA operations, and operator development in real-time grid environments. An Energy Management System (EMS) control room training expert is a specialized professional responsible for educating and developing the skills of operators who manage critical energy infrastructure. These experts ensure that control room personnel can effectively monitor, analyze, optimize, and respond to various scenarios within an EMS, which is crucial for grid stability, efficiency, and safety.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops Training Programs: Designs comprehensive training curricula that cover all aspects of EMS operations, including SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, data analysis, energy flow optimization, emergency procedures, and cybersecurity. Delivers Training: Conducts hands‑on training sessions, simulations, and theoretical instruction for new and experienced control‑room operators. This often involves using specialized simulation software that mimics real‑world EMS environments. Assesses Competency: Evaluates operator performance and understanding through exams, practical exercises, and ongoing assessments to ensure they meet required competency standards. Stays Current: Keeps up to date with the latest advancements in EMS technology, industry regulations, and best practices to ensure training content remains relevant and effective. Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Equips operators with the skills to identify and troubleshoot issues within the system, from equipment malfunctions to data anomalies. Emergency Preparedness: Trains operators on how to execute emergency procedures, manage load balancing, and respond to grid disturbances or outages. Compliance: Ensures that training adheres to all relevant safety and operational guidelines and prepares operators for regulatory requirements. EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Computer Science, or a related field is typically essential. An associate’s degree in Energy Management and Controls Technology can also be a strong foundation, especially if supplemented with relevant experience and certifications. Understand and may have developed training based on the “Systematic Approach to Training” methodology. Design training using the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) or similar models.10+ years of practical experience as a control‑room operator in a power plant, utility, or energy management setting. Experience with SCADA systems, real‑time data monitoring, and energy optimization techniques is paramount.
