Job Full Description We are seeking an experienced Sales Engineer to join a Connecticut manufacturing company. This is an excellent opportunity for a sales professional who understands manufacturing and enjoys combining technical sales, estimating, customer relationship management, and new business development This role is on site in Milford, CTSalary Range is $60,000-70,000/year plus (based on experience) plus benefits The Sales Engineer will work directly with existing and prospective customers to understand their manufacturing needs, review blueprints and technical drawings, prepare cost estimates and quotations, and follow opportunities through the sales process.
The ideal candidate will have: 3-5 years of sales experience in a manufacturing environment and be comfortable discussing manufactured components, specifications, pricing, and production requirements with both customers and internal engineering and manufacturing teams.
What You'll Do:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing manufacturing customers while identifying new business opportunities.
  • Communicate with customers to understand product specifications, quantities, applications, delivery expectations, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications
  • Review customer RFQs (Requests for Quotation) and determine the information needed to prepare an accurate estimate.
  • Develop cost estimates and customer quotations based on drawings, materials, manufacturing processes, quantities, and other project requirements.
  • Submit estimates and quotations to the Engineering Department for technical review and approval, making revisions when necessary.
  • Follow up on outstanding quotes, sales opportunities, and customer inquiries.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to evaluate customer requirements and support accurate pricing.
  • Understand and recognize different manufacturing processes, including machining and metal stamping
  • Provide ongoing customer service related to quotations, orders, technical questions, delivery requirements, and account needs.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the company's manufacturing capabilities and effectively communicate those capabilities to current and prospective customers.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer activity, quotations, follow-up, and sales opportunities.
What We're Looking For:
  • 3-5 years of sales experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, technical sales, estimating, account management, or industrial sales is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes; experience with machining and/or metal stamping is especially helpful.
  • Ability to understand customer specifications and translate technical requirements into accurate estimates and quotations.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple RFQs, quotations, customer requests, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working directly with customers as well as engineering and manufacturing personnel.
  • Computer proficiency and ability to learn estimating, ERP, CRM, and other manufacturing-related software.
Education: Bachelor's degree preferred. A degree in Business, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field is beneficial; relevant professional experience will also be considered.
